A fertility workup is the essential first step in understanding the reasons behind difficulty conceiving. It is a comprehensive series of investigations designed to evaluate all the key factors that influence fertility — hormonal, anatomical, and genetic — in both partners. The findings guide everything that follows: from whether expectant management is appropriate, to which treatment pathway is most likely to succeed.

At Lotus Fertility, our workups are thorough, evidence-based, and designed to leave no significant factor unexamined. We review all results together with you and explain exactly what they mean for your individual situation.

"Understanding why is the foundation of every effective fertility plan. A thorough workup puts you — and your clinicians — in the best possible position."

What a Fertility Workup Includes

Hormonal Profile

Blood tests on specific days of your cycle to assess FSH, LH, oestradiol, AMH (ovarian reserve), progesterone, prolactin, and thyroid function. These give a detailed picture of ovarian reserve and hormonal balance.

Pelvic Ultrasound

A transvaginal ultrasound to assess the uterus (shape, fibroids, polyps), ovaries (follicle count, cysts), and fallopian tubes where possible. Antral follicle count gives a direct measure of ovarian reserve.

Semen Analysis

A comprehensive assessment of sperm count, motility, morphology, and other parameters against WHO reference values. Additional tests for DNA fragmentation may be recommended.

Further Investigations

Depending on initial findings, additional tests may include hysterosalpingography (HSG) to assess tubal patency, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, or genetic karyotyping for both partners.
